If you are shedding hair almost every day, there is nothing unusual about it. It is normal to lose between 100-125 hairs daily. Generally, hair falls of when the growth cycle of hair ends. Normally 10 % of our hair is in the “resting phase”, and after 2-3 months when this stage ends, hair begins to shed and new hair grows. In some cases, people notice abnormal hair loss.

Androgenetic Alopecia

Both men and women face some kind of hair loss problems as they get older. Hair loss is a regular part of the aging process. Androgenetic Alopecia is a type of hair loss and occurs due to hereditary reasons and often affects some individuals more than others. It is more frequent in men and is commonly known as Male Pattern Baldness. People suffering from this type of hair loss usually experience receding hair line and baldness on the top of head. However, women with androgenetic alopecia do not go entirely bald even if they experience serious hair loss. In fact, hair loss occurs evenly across the scalp.
When it comes to Androgenetic Alopecia, hormones play a significant role. In simple words, both men and women produce testosterone. These testosterones then are converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) with the help of the enzyme-5-alpha-reductase. When dihydrotestosterone shrinks, it resulting in the membranes in the scalp to stiffen, become inelastic and check blood flow, which leads to the hair follicles to weaken. This is when a hair sheds out, it is not replaced. Generally, men experience more hair loss as compared to women. It is because they produce more testosterone.
Other Causes of Hair loss
No doubt Androgenetic Alopecia is the major reason for occurrence of hair loss. However, there are other factors that are responsible for hair loss too. Certain medical conditions like hypothyroidism, ringworm and fungal infections can lead to hair loss. Some medications like blood thinners, birth control pills and excessive intake of vitamin A may also be responsible for sudden or abnormal hair loss. Other factors such as crash diets, sudden hormonal changes, chemotherapy and radiation can also be responsible for hair loss.
Some of the most common reasons for hair loss are emotional stress, pregnancy, or surgery and hair loss may be noticed 3-4 months after the stressful incident has taken place. Stress is one of the major reasons that lead to a slowing of new hair growth as a many hair follicles go into the resting phase and no fresh hair growth is experienced.
There are certain other factors that usually go unnoticed but may lead to hair loss. Tight rollers, fancy hair styles or wearing pigtails may end up pulling your hair which leads to permanent hair loss. Fancy hair products, chemicals used for permanent straightening or hot oil treatments may result in inflammation to the hair follicles which can cause hair loss.
Important Note: If you experience hair loss, it could be an early warning sign of a more severehealth problem like diabetes. So when you experience abnormal hair loss, be sure you visit your doctor.

Things You Need to Consider If You Experience Hair Loss

Are you experiencing hair loss even when you have been following a healthy well-balanced diet? Often certain medications contribute to hair loss. So if you have started taking certain prescriptions medications and experiencing hair loss, you must visit your doctor.
Make sure you don’t consume heavy doses of vitamin A because this could be responsible for your hair fall. 

If you experience hair loss, make sure you inculcate a good fitness plan in your daily regimen. Often hair loss is the outcome of stress. Practicing yoga, meditation can assist to reduce your stress levels.
Often hormonal imbalance is also responsible for hair fall. Ask your doctor if your hair loss is due to hormonal imbalance.
If you are experiencing hair loss, cornrows, puffs, using a curling iron, blow drying your hair or using hot roller could be the reason. You must change your hair style. Go with hair styles that put less pressure on your hair and scalp.
People experiencing hair loss should never go with harsh shampoos and hair conditioners as these may damage your hair. You should go with mild shampoos and conditioners.
People facing hair loss problems may use rosemary oil in an olive oil base to massage their head. It will not only boost blood circulation in the scalp, but will also encourage hair growth.
